Payment Protection Insurance (sometimes called 'loan protection' or abbreviated as PPI) covers your loan or debt repayments in the event of certain problems, for example, if you are unable to work because of illness, or if you are made redundant.
However, many banks and/or lenders have systematically mis-sold this type of policy. For example:
There are still millions of people who have yet to claim their money so please don't be put off or you could miss out on £000's.
If you have your loan document or an annual loan statement / credit card statements, they will show if you currently have PPI.
As banks should retain personal data for 6 years, they should keep information relating to any PPI policy sold alongside a loan/credit card which is still running or has finished in the last 6 years. This means that even if you took out a policy in 2002 but the cover finished (i.e. the loan was repaid or the credit card stopped) in 2006, your bank should still have the information.
That said, we may still have trouble getting the bank to investigate your complaint without proof of the PPI policy. Your complaint will get dealt with far more quickly if you can provide proof that you had a policy - such as the application form or loan agreement showing PPI was added.
If you have had a loan, credit card or mortgage, then you could be due £000's in compensation. If we can prove that you have had PPI, and your policy meets other criteria, you can complete your details online or we will take some additional information from you over the phone.
You don't need lots more paperwork as we can normally do everything based on your recollection of events. In our experience very few people were given the full explanation of the policy which they should have been given when they took it out.
Our aim is to make everything as easy as possible so we will register the complaint for you, complete all the forms (which you will just need to sign and return) liaise with your lender and then if you are offered compensation, we can tell you whether the offer is correct or not. If the bank or credit card company reject your complaint we will refer it to the Financial Ombudsman, and in some cases, use a solicitor.
